Introduction
In 1884 the Mignonette, a small coastal boat, set sail from Southampton to Sydney. It had a crew of four. In the South Atlantic the Mignonette was shipwrecked and the crew hurriedly put to sea in a dinghy. This is the story of their ordeal, and of their survival.
All the events and facts depicted in the play are true. Edgar Alan Poe wrote "The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym" in 1838, 46 years before the Mignonette was wrecked and is quoted verbatim in the play.
