Introduction
Bryony Lavery (b. 1947) was raised in Yorshire. She began her career as an actress but became disillusioned with the lack of good parts for females, so she decided to become a playwright and write better parts for women. Since 1976 she has written over twenty plays, her most famous being Frozen (1998).She translated a 2007 version of Anton Chekov's Uncle Vanya, has written the biography of the actress Tallulah Bankhead and has been a lecturer in playwriting at Birmingham University. She came out as gay when she was in her thirties after being married for a time.
