Introduction
NB - this production is still in preparation - full details will be posted to this page when available
Kafka's Dick is about the nature of fame and how reputations are made - and also a bit about fathers and sons (and tortoises)...
Cast
These character descriptions are taken from the audition notices
- KAFKA - playing age 25-35 - the writer. Ideally tall, dark, attractive, but able to convey an air of despair - he's apparently dying
- BROD - playing age 25-35 - Kafka's friend and biographer. Smaller, full of energy, bustling, enthusiastic.
- SYDNEY - playing age 35+ - an enthusiastic 'disciple' of Kafka but otherwise an ordinary bloke.
- LINDA - playing age 30+ - Sydney's wife - feels she might have made more of her life.
- FATHER - should look pretty old (70+). Sydney's dad. Has a Zimmer frame. Bit of a scene-stealing part.
- HERMANN K - playing age 45+ Kafka's father. At once alarming and endearing at the same time. NB. Jim Broadbent played him in the original production if you want a type.
- JULIE - playing age 35+ - is Hermann's wife and a social worker at the same time! All will become clear (sort of)
